Choate’s Kohler Enviromental Center is a laboratory for green building and living. The LEED platinum building, designed for net zero energy usage, is an immersive environment where 20 students can live and learn while studying there impacts in real time. We were happy to install these tables made from a giant River Birch that came down on Choate’s campus in 2012, the same year the center was opened.
River birch has become a more popular urban tree in recent years and in 2002 one of its cultivars was named the Urban Tree of the Year by the Society of Municipal Arborists.
